What a fixed price actually includes (and what it never does)

The number on your phone covers travel, sales tax, cleanup and the labor to finish the job. Here is the short list of what sits outside it, and why.

Quote paperwork on a kitchen counter before a plumbing job

When we text you a fixed price, that number is the invoice. Not a starting point, not an estimate with a range. It covers the trip inside the five boroughs, sales tax, the standard parts we carry on every van, up to sixty minutes of labor on the common jobs, and the cleanup before we leave. If the job is on the Price Board, the price on the board is the price.

What is inside the number

Travel inside NYC. Consumables — washers, seals, cartridges, wire nuts, solder, sealant. The labor to finish the job you described, not just to look at it. A 12-month written guarantee. And the paperwork the city expects: a DOB inspection report on electrical work, a pressure test on gas.

What sits outside it

Fixtures you choose. A faucet can be $60 or $900 and we do not guess for you, so it goes on the quote as its own line. Anything we could not see when you called — a second leak behind the first, a panel that turns out to be 60 A instead of 100 A. When that happens the tech stops, texts you a new number, and waits. Nothing is added to the invoice that you did not approve on your phone.

After 10 PM and on Sundays the fixed price is +50%. We say it on the phone before anyone drives, because a surcharge you learn about on the invoice is not a surcharge, it is a trick.

Why we work this way

Twelve years of hourly work taught us one thing: the customer and the tradesperson want different things from a clock. A fixed price puts both of us on the same side. We are faster when we are not paid by the hour, and you can say yes without a calculator.
